If there is one word to describe Dobi, it has to be mellow. He just goes with the flow. He didn't seem nervous or upset when he first got here, like a lot of fosters. He was well accepted by the other four legged residents, and some of them are a bit cranky. He was already house trained, but caught on to the dog door quickly. He is very quiet, not even barking when the neighbor dogs do. He gets a bit excited about walkies, but who doesn't? Dobi quickly learned to match his pace to his slower housemates. Now for the dark side--Dobi's previous foster home did not have any other dogs. He was the perfect gentlemen when his foster dad was there, and attached to him immediately. But, he was VERY unhappy being left all alone. He was not destructive, just verbal. Dobi probably needs to be in a home with at least one other dog. You may be able to work with his separation anxiety as an only dog, but it could be a challenge. If you need a companion for another dog who can fit right it, Dobi is your guy.
Daisy is such a good dog you would just fall in love with her if you met her. When you take her on walks, she is perfect! She doesn't run after other animals; she stays by your side and she is very friendly to all people. On one such walk, her foster mom fell down on the ice and Daisy came up and licked her to death. Her foster mom also couldn't believe it when Daisy saw a cat and she just stopped and looked (even though the cat was hissing) and then kept on walking. Even dogs don't get Daisy riled up; they go bonkers trying to get to Daisy and she just looks, sniffs, and keeps on going! However, when Daisy sees kids it's a completely different story; she wants to be right there with them. She loves to sniff and kiss them and yet she doesn't jump up. Daisy is crate trained but not quite ready to have free run of the house while people are gone. Daisy is also a very talkative basset. Ideally, she needs a tolerant guardian with a sense of humor!
Hi there, my name is Barney although I also answer to Barney Boo Boo (but that's our secret okay?). I am super sweet, very handsome and modest too! I have the best freckles ever--they really accentuate my shapely legs. My foster mom says I need a bit of work on my manners. She has this silly idea that I'm not allowed to sleep on the couch. I would love a forever home that can give me lots of love and attention. I'm a pretty active guy and would be super happy with another dog in the family to play with.
Hamilton is doing very well in his foster home. He spends most of his day asleep on the couch. He's taking to house training really well. He now knows the command sit. We're working on stay (about halfway) and I'm trying to teach him lay down. He gets along great with my nephews (2,3, and 6 years old) and gets along well with my parent's dogs, as well as with my dog. He loves rawhides, treats, and has an affection for fetching and slobbering all over teddy bears. He does do some jumping up (very enthusiastic) and he is a bit food possessive with other dogs and we are working on that. He's doing a lot better already. Very quick learner. He's a very sweet and very handsome boy.
Cooper is very calm for a "youngster". He's most eager to please, but he still makes a few mistakes. He isn't always sure where he should be going...sometimes "wandering off". He wears a harness for now, until we can be sure he won't slip out of his collar. This very small guy likes to play, ride in cars, is crate trained and uses a doggie door consistently. Cooper really likes people and sincerely wants to do the right thing. WIth some obedience training he'll soon be listening as well as he cuddles!
Cowboy is a fun loving guy who would be happiest in a home with another dog for him to play with. He l-o-v-e-s to play!! Cowboy is very good on a leash and enjoys short walks. He is a bit "mouthy" and might not be good with small children. Cowboy's favorite space to be in is yours. Watching him "grow up" is sure to delight everyone in the house.
Suzie is about as sweet as any one basset could be. She?s mostly black and white, with brown eyebrows that are just too cute. Another one of our little princesses, she?d love to lie on your lap whenever possible, but can be happy lying next to you as well. She does very well with other dogs, but we think she would be fine as an only dog.
Gus is a sweet and loving dog who will transition very nicely into your home. While somewhat a couch potato, he does get excited to go for walks. He doesn't pay much attention to cats and he adores children and he is very gentle with our 1 year old daughter. He loves treats, tummy rubs, bones, and long naps on soft dog beds. While he gets along well with other dogs, he prefers to rest quietly with his people instead of rough play. His front legs cause him some discomfort and going upstairs is tricky for him but it doesn't slow him down very much. Because of his legs, he doesn't jump up onto couches or beds which is a major plus! He is extremely responsive to gentle but firm correction and is house and crate trained. You really couldn't ask for a better, more easy going dog.
Marian has come a very long way since being dumped in the Uintas with a batch of puppies. (The puppies were saved also and have since been adopted.) She came to UFBH with kennel cough and pneumonia and is now a happy, healthy, beautiful basset hound. She is crate trained and almost totally potty trained. She loves kids. In fact, she is sweet and loving to everyone she meets. She loves her walks and enjoys every smell that comes along. She has a foster sibling and is very good with other dogs. She is just an all round great basset that would love to come be part of your family.
Wally's eyes say it all. A total little "gentleman", his foster Mom tells us he is a delight to have around. He'll need a home without stairs (maybe one or two would be ok) and would prefer to be in a home where at least one of his family members would be at home more often than not. This charming basset-boy loves to be loved. Wally is very well mannered and ready for a forever family of his very own.
Misty is such an adorable girl with a tender heart and easygoing personality. Her foster mom says she a companion that knows the best of both worlds—she's a skilled cuddle bug and yet she's still active and loves to play. She's happy to be with her foster parents—she would snuggle with you in bed or on the couch all day if you wanted. If you are up and moving, she wants to be up and moving with you. She loves to take long walks and short hikes. Of course, these outdoor events need to be on leash or she will be tempted to explore without you. In typical basset-fashion, she can disappear in a blink as her short legs move faster than you would imagine. She loves to play with her small and large dog friends at her foster home. She rarely barks but can't resist joining in if her friends carry on too long. Be warned though, if she sees a cat—she will bark and give chase. This is something Misty is working on but chasing kitties is just too much fun and if no one is there to remind her, she can't resist. Misty has mastered potty training with a dog door. She loves food and is doing great learning the skill of sitting and taking snacks gently. Other than chasing the cat, Misty's only other bad habit is appears to be counter surfing. If you leave food unattended, close to the edge, it's hers!
C B is a lovable friend. He loves attention from all people and he is very good with kids. He's very active and likes to "roughhouse" when you let him know it's ok but he always plays nice and never gets too aggressive. His behavior is exceptional and he never finds himself getting into trouble even when home alone for extended periods of time. He speaks from time to time, usually when he sees the car pulling in the driveway after his patient wait for his dinner, but for the most part he is quiet and reserved. One of the nicest young gents I've met!!!!!!
This sweet little guy came to us with his litter-mate, Walter. Although not particularly bonded to each other, Kevin would do well with a family who has another dog to play with. A bit timid and somewhat shy, it would be good for him to have a buddy to look up to...to show him the world is not such a scary place. He loves belly rubs and is a good little cuddler.
Buster is a bit on the serious side, but not in a bad way...he knows what he likes and in a very sweet way will "tell" you what that is. He likes other dogs but does not really like the vet and needs extra guidance when it's time for visits. Buster can be quite protective of things and people and would possibly not do well with children. Buster is house trained to use a doggie door, but could quickly learn to signal you to open a door for him when it's time to go "potty". He's devoted, loyal and bonds very quickly with people; he would clearly love to have a special person in his life to be with. We'd love to tell you more about this special boy, so give us a call!
Meet another of our young, full loving hounds. And does she like to play, play, play! Peggy Sue does well with other dogs. She's quickly fallen into the routine in her temporary foster home after her owner gave her up because of her own health issues. Peggy Sue would be a delightful addition to any family and would really enjoy another dog in the family to play, play, play with.
Morgan's the name, and snuggling is the game. If you try to not snuggle, I will prove to you that I am a great mind controller and force you to snuggle with me. Anyway, about ME, I'm a 4 year old basset. As you can see I'm one good looking hound. I'm a happy, go lucky, kinda guy. I never have a bad day, and I'm always so happy to see people. I love doing new things, watching TV with the humans (Besides the westerns, the guns and horses give me the barks), long walks, sun bathing, having wrestling matches with my basset friend. My FM (Foster mom) says I have the softest fur and ears. I'd have to agree with her. I am pretty soft! I am fully potty trained, and a healthy eater. I'll even share my food with my fellow hounds. I know what's ok to chew on, and what's not. Anyway, that's all about me. I got a wrestling match to attend to, so I gotta run. Ruff, Morgan
Hello, my name is Asha and I am probably the most wonderful Basset you will ever know. I am sweet natured, loving, goofy and laid back all rolled into one. I am housetrained, kennel-trained, and I even scratch the door to let you know when I would like to go outside. I tend to hold onto my things a bit protectively at first, but once I feel settled in and know there are other good things in store for me, I'm very good about sharing. I love playing with my foster family's dogs and I even get along well with their silly cat that likes to play with dog tails. I'm happiest when I'm just hanging out with the people I love. I can be a fast learner when I want, but like a typical Basset, will do my own thing if what you want just doesn't sound very interesting to me. So, what does make it interesting? I have to admit I will do just about anything for a treat! To be truthful, I'm still working on taking treats more gently-I just get so excited! I love to please my people; it really gets my tail wagging. So, if you are looking for an awesome Basset with an incredible voice that will be fun, playful, laid back, and loyal ; your search is over. I'm your dog!
